Trustee Recruitment

We are seeking to strengthen our Board of Trustees with new members who will bring energy, enthusiasm and ideas as we work to develop our services and deepen our impact. 
We are committed to bringing equality, diversity and inclusion into the heart of our services and how we operate.  Increasing the diversity of our Board is an important step towards this goal.  We would especially welcome applicants who are from Black, Asian or other minority ethnic groups, people with a disability and people with lived experience of our services.
Trustee Role
Our trustees play a vital role in making sure that Age UK North Yorkshire and Darlington achieves its core purpose.  They strategically oversee the management and administration of the charity.  They also ensure that Age UK North Yorkshire and Darlington has a clear strategy and that our work and goals are in line with our vision.  Just as importantly, they support and challenge the Chief Executive Officer and Senior Management Team to enable Age UK North Yorkshire and Darlington to grow and thrive, particularly as we emerge from the difficulties caused by the pandemic.

Who we are looking for


We are looking for people willing to bring energy, enthusiasm and commitment to the role, and who will broaden the diversity of thinking on our board.  
Personal skills and qualities:
•    Willingness and ability to understand and accept their responsibilities and liabilities as trustees and to act in the best interests of the organisation.
•    Ability to think creatively and strategically, exercise good, independent judgement and work effectively as a board member.
•    Effective communication skills and willingness to participate actively in discussion.
•    A strong personal commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion, and to improving the lives of older people.
•    Commitment to Nolan’s seven principles of public life: selflessness, integrity, objectivity, accountability, openness, honesty and leadership.

As well as the above, we are particularly interested in applications from people with one or more of the following skills:
1)    Care provision/management
2)    Financial management
3)    Income generation, fundraising, sponsorship, corporate relations
4)    Service user/beneficiary of our services
5)    Buildings management
6)    Community development
7)    Monitoring and evaluation
8)    Experience of running a business
