Posted on Friday, 6 March 2020 4:13 pm | Category: Coronavirus Learn more about Coronavirus and discover 3 simple steps to reduce the risk of infection.

What is Coronavirus?
Coronavirus is a virus that causes an illness called COVID-19 which affects your lungs and airways. For most people, it will cause mild symptoms but for others, especially older people and those with pre-existing respiratory conditions it can be much more serious.

What are the symptoms?
The symptoms are:

- A cough
- Shortness of breath
- A high temperature

Here are three simple steps that you can take to reduce your risk of contracting Coronavirus:

1. The most important way to reduce your risk of infection is to wash your hands regularly for at least 20 seconds which is about the same length of time to sing "Happy Birthday" twice. This is especially important when you get home after going out, before eating and after sneezing or blowing your nose. Watch this NHS video to see how to wash your hands thoroughly:

2. Make sure that you catch coughs or sneezes with a tissue or your sleeve, NOT your hands and put used tissues in the bin and then wash your hands.

3. Try to avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth.
