Here for you this Easter Weekend

Posted on Friday, 10 April 2020 8:45 am | Category: Coronavirus Age UK North Yorkshire & Darlington has pledged to remain open for those in need this Easter

For many older people Easter would normally be a time when they would be getting visits from friends and family, attending events and getting out and about but this year many will instead be facing the bank holiday weekend isolated and alone. Age UK North Yorkshire & Darlington will be keeping its essential services and phone lines open over the weekend to make sure that older people in crisis continue to receive the support they need.

The charity will continue to run hot food delivery services in Richmond, Lower Teesdale and Darlington over the weekend to ensure that older people are getting at least one hot meal a day. Telephone lines will also be open to provide urgent information and advice on how to access Coronavirus related services and financial help. Older people can also access the charity’s Good Friends telephone befriending service to receive a regular phone call to help reduce feelings of loneliness and to make sure that they are OK.

Helen Hunter, Age UK North Yorkshire & Darlington Chief Executive Officer said:
“Easter is normally a time where older people would receive visits from loved ones, but this year many are facing isolation and loneliness. We want to make sure that we continue to be there for them, so that they can receive a hot meal, a telephone call or get support to access critical services.”

“Our team have given up their bank holiday weekend to ensure that at this crucial time we are there to help older people in crisis. At this time there are many who have no-one else to turn to in their time of need and we wanted to make sure that all older people are supported to access essential information and services during the holiday period.”

The charity’s phone lines will be open between 8:30am and 4pm throughout the Easter weekend. For general enquiries and to request telephone befriending the number is 0300 30 20 100, the hot meal service is available on 01325 741 942 and the information and advice line will also be open for any urgent queries on 01325 357 345.
