Free Energy Saving Equipment for Darlington Over 50s

Posted on Wednesday, 7 August 2019 11:11 am | Category: Darlington Plan ahead for the Winter with free home energy-saving equipment from Age UK North Yorkshire & Darlington.

While Darlington has been basking in the warmth of a record breaking Summer, you might be forgiven for not thinking about getting ready for the cold of winter. However, local charity, Age UK North Yorkshire & Darlington are urging over 50s who live within the Borough of Darlington to book an appointment to have free energy saving equipment fitted to their homes in preparation for the inevitable cold snap.

As part of its efforts to reduce the levels of fuel poverty among older people, Age UK have teamed up with leading energy provider EON to provide the energy saving kits and to fund the fitting by a trained handyman. Age UK North Yorkshire & Darlington can also provide free and impartial advice to over 50s to help with choosing energy suppliers and provide handy tips on how to save money on energy bills from their Information and Advice office in Beaumont Street behind Boyes.

The charity can provide and fit radiator foils, LED light bulbs and draft excluders to help prevent heat loss and reduce home running costs. Installers can also provide cold alarms that can warn you when the temperature in the home drops to unsafe levels. The devices can also help to reduce fuel bills all year round by reducing lighting costs down to less than a sixth of the cost of running conventional incandescent light bulbs.

James Dobson, Age UK North Yorkshire & Darlington’s Operations Manager said:

“As we get older, a cold home can present a real risk to health. It’s never too early to consider getting your home ready for Winter, and all over 50's households in Darlington are eligible for this free service. As well keeping your home warm, the equipment will save money on your energy bills too.”

Appointments to have the equipment installed can be booked by calling the charity’s Darlington office on 01325 362832. There are limited numbers of energy saving kits available so the charity is urging that eligible residents contact them as soon as possible to book their appointment.
